God is up to something.
Through my prayers and thinking and quieting down my soul to reflect it seems to me sometimes that God is up to something. When I pay attention to things happening around me, seeing God line up the chess pieces if you will, I can’t help but be drawn back into the fact that God has a purpose and a plan. Not a cliche or life verse we throw around to make people feel good. That there is actually a plan that involves us.
One of my favorite movies is Dead Poet’s Society. Robin Williams plays a literature teacher trying to inspire creativity and passion in his class of future laywers, doctors and executives. In case the clip below doesn’t work for you, I copied the text below.
Mr. Keating:
“We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for. To quote from Whitman, “O me! O life!… of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless… of cities filled with the foolish; what good amid these, O me, O life?” Answer. That you are here – that life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. That the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?”
I think we all desire to contribute at least one verse in this powerful play. In the story of what God is doing in our lives, in the lives of others, in our own neighborhoods and across the world, what is God doing and how can we take part?
Let us pray for direction to find our verse.
